Internet Figures & Where Do We Go From Here?

2017-2019

Internet Figures & Where Do We Go From Here? is a collection of poetry created from the years 2017-2019. Cross-posted to Instagram, these poems contain thoughts and ramblings of a character meant to portray the depths of what being online makes us feel about ourselves and others. This does not mean it is meant to be relatable to every person. It is instead meant to spark introspection on how we view our own relationship to technology and the internet.

Look is a starting glance into the character and their thoughts, how they live, and how they would tell you they view technology.

I Own You shows the social standing of the character, and where they are mentally at the start.

My Lie Is A Truth I Can’t Face is about online vs. reality, and the effect it has on the character.

Vague describes the dichotomy of growing up online.

Paint shows what it can mean to be noticed in a parasocial situation, perhaps for the wrong reasons.

Greed Can Be Lime Green plays with the ideas of the crowd when something goes wrong to someone on a pedestal.

Give Up Or Get It Done is the character’s reaction to the previous poem.

Winner, Winner is an outsider’s perspective to a mess of a situation.

100k and Counting shows the negativity of some online spaces and how that weighs on the mind of our character.

You’ve Built Your Own Cage is all about pressure and online reality bleeding into real life.

Pliers is a fun poem about expectation. (Also, this was a challenge of mine to base a poem off the Markiplier persona.)

Hair is near and dear to my heart, about relationships and personal identity suffering in the wake of expectations.
